Last night, I had a wonderful dream. In the dream, I rode my bike in a country road. On the both sides of the road, there are many trees. And these trees all have different fruits, apples, pears, oranges, bananas and many other fruits. The fruits are ripe. I can get them on the bike. They are delicious. I eat many fruits and I am full. And then, I go back home. I tell the story to my mother, but she doesn’t believe me. Then, I woke up.

What Electives to Choose
For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write a short essay entitled What Electives to Choose. You should write at least 120 words following the outline given below in Chinese:

Nowadays, a growing number of electives are offered in all sorts of universities. According to a recent survey in China Daily, students can choose their favorite courses from a total number of 20,000 electives in Chinese universities. The tos include everything, from literature to engineering, from sociology to chemistry.
When asked why they choose the electives, different students provide different answers. Some of them choose the electives which are easier to study; therefore, the students will be able to win the credit with little effort. Other students maintain that they choose the electives that interest them the most. Still others choose the “practical” courses because they believe these programs will help them hunt for a better job when they graduate.
As to me, I choose two electives, English for Academic Purposes (EAP) and economics. The former will equip me with more knowledge to read and write academic papers; while the latter is important in that everyone has to know a little economics in order to live better in the time of “market economy”.

人的大脑中有一部分细胞在人醒的时候，是不工作的，只有在人睡着的时候，这部分细胞才开始活动。这部分细胞如不使用，就会趋于衰退，所以需要有“表现”其功能的机会，这一过程就产生了梦。引起梦的原因，往往是由于睡眠时，中枢神经系统受到外界影响的结果。梦是在睡眠时，一些没有被完全抑制的皮质细胞群的工作所引起的。人在一夜的睡眠中，从无意识状态的沉睡进入奇妙的色彩缤纷的梦幻一般有2～6次。在做梦的这个阶段，眼球在闭着的眼皮下转动，这时，人脑相对来说是静的，但仍然在活动，可从脑中测到快速紊乱的电波，其强度有时竟能超过白天活动的强度；脑内有一种神经中心，它的职能就是在人做梦时抑制其肌肉活动，使梦中的行为不会超出精神范围变成行动。
日本山梨大学研究人员根据研究结果得出：多梦有助于延年益寿。他们发现，人脑中存在着两类相反的促眠肽，一类肽促无梦睡眠，另一类肽促有梦睡眠。研究人员将促有梦睡眠肽施于动物，使动物的有梦期延长，结果发现，接受实验动物的平均寿命大大延长。日本医生还发现，痴呆症患者睡眠无梦期长，寿命大多数较短。
有些人觉得做梦影响休息，夜里做梦后白天就感到有气无力，其实，这是一种心理因素所致。做梦者总把梦中的内容和自己心情不愉快的事情联系在一起，使思想负担加重，精神情绪受到压抑，从而出现种种不适现象。做梦是一种解除疲劳的休息，而不是被动的心理补偿，是能够回忆的，能够调节大脑皮层兴奋与抑制处于相对平衡的积极休息过程。生理学家告诉我们：人的大脑皮层的兴奋与抑制的过程，每时每刻都应处于相对平衡的状态下，两种睡眠状态的交替出现，就是在不断地进行调节的结果。深度的无梦睡眠是一种抑制过程，可以使大脑得到充分的休息，补充能量，解除疲劳；而有梦睡眠则是大脑皮层中少数细胞的兴奋，有节奏地刺激大脑，使其保持一定的兴奋水平，从而起到稳定机体的调节作用。这样一来，大脑皮层的兴奋和抑制水平始终处于相对的平衡生理状态下，更有利于白天的工作和学习。
德国神经学家科思·胡贝尔教授认为，做梦可以锻炼大脑的功能，世界上做梦越多的生物，脑子就越发达。科思·胡贝尔提出，人脑中有一部分细胞在醒着时不起什么大的作用，但在睡着后，这些脑细胞却进行“演习”，呈现兴奋状态，以完善其功能，故人们就出现了做梦。科学家认为，人的智慧潜力是很大的，在一般情况下只用了不到四分之一，另外四分之三潜藏在无意识之中，做梦便是一种典型的无意识活动。通过做梦重新组合自己的知识，把新的知识和旧的知识合理地结合起来，进行整理、储备，最后存入记忆的仓库之中，使知识成为自己的智慧和才能。
做梦是人的生理本能，我们不必为自己做了美梦而欣喜万分，也不必为做了恶梦而沮丧，因为，做梦本身对人及睡眠都有一定的益处，除非你夜夜惊梦不得安眠。果真如此的话，则应找医生看看。
